From the President, Ronald J. Smith
Detroit Garden Center had a wonderful year filled with many exciting activities and events. The Potluck and Flower Pot Raffle in September was delightful. Members and guests enjoyed many different and delicious dishes and great raffle items. Thank you to Mary Birnbryer for securing the Tompkins Center for us each year.
The BSCEM Quarterly Meeting hosted by Detroit Garden Center Board and Advisors was a huge success. Details of the event can be found in this Bulletin edition.
The Native Planting looked beautiful in late September and October. The plants are now maturing, displaying their lovely fall colors. Volunteers have helped to make this space an eye catcher to those whose are walking/biking the Dequindre Cut or driving pass on Woodbridge Street.
Stella Heatley graciously submitted her daily journal of our June 2017 trip to Boston. I know everyone who traveled to Boston will be thrilled by how she captured every last detail of thetrip. For our 2018 trip, Detroit Garden Center will be traveling to Southern Ontario and Buffalo, New York in mid June. Full details and registration form are included in the newsletter. We have contracted with Margaret Dailey-Plouffe, a travel agent from Ottawa, Ontario, who has organized a wonderful trip for us. She has scheduled private gardens for every day of the trip and personally knows many of the gardeners. (Please note that you will be sending your registration directly to Margaret at HMA Travel.)
The Detroit Garden Center year ended with a Holiday Gathering at Belle Isle Nature Center in December . The weather cooperated this year adding to the festive afternoon. The poinsettia door prizes where a highlight!
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy New Year!
