From the President, Ronald J. Smith
Is it just me, or has Winter lasted a very long time this year? I trust you were able to escape to a warmer place "to get away from it all"!
The Winter Garden Seminar held in early February had 87 participants. Janet Macunovich provided great topics for all the gardeners on a cold wintery Saturday. I know it's too early to think of next year, but the 2019 Winter Gardening Seminar will be on Saturday, February 2, 2019. Please mark your calendars! We are busy selecting the presentations for this great event.
The Annual Luncheon and Meeting will be held at the end of April. The invitation can be found in the newsletter. John Hartig, newly retired as Refuge Manager for the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and author of four books, will be presenting Waterfront Porch. He will share the design, planning and construction of Detroit's River Walk, which you'll find fascinating.
Detroit Garden Center is traveling across Southern Ontario and to Buffalo, New York during the week of June 18 - 22, 2018. This particular trip will be extra special due to the number of private individuals who will be opening their gardens for us. Reservations are still open until the middle of April. Please think about joining us, you won't be disappointed! If you have questions please call Margaret Dailey-Plouffe, Director of HNA Travels and Garden Tour Specialists. To make reservations, please call her direct 1-877-672-3030 with your information and your roommate (unless you're traveling as a single). It takes less than 10 minutes to complete the process. A coach will be picking travelers up at two Detroit area locations: Dearborn Centennial Library on Michigan Ave., Dearborn and Grosse Pointe Woods Police station on Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Woods.
I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming functions and events this spring!
